Not a big fan of loops? Then we have great news for you: for the first time in our history, we are offering our competitors a long marathon ride in line, without loops! A mini Tour of Flanders through the hills of the Flemish Ardennes, but for mountain bikers. At the end, you have over 85 kilometres, just under two thousand altitude metres, and a lot of lactic acid in your calves. For the first time, duos will also complete all this together, just like the rest of their Mountainbike of Flanders!
In our marathon stage, you’ll pass some of the region’s best-known hills. Sometimes via their iconic cobblestones, often along their lesser-known off-road side. The Oude Kwaremont, the Paterberg, the Koppenberg: you will see them all. The Haaghoek, Berg ten Houte, the Eikenberg and the Kanarieberg are also on the route. But the Flemish Ardennes are much more than that, especially for mountain bikers. Have you ever heard of the IJskelder (Ice cellar) or Mr. Dokteur’s woods? No? Don’t worry: after your passage in our Saturday ride you will never forget them, that’s a promise!
Don’t do anything too crazy on the way: In the final of Saturday’s ride, the dreaded man with the hammer is waiting behind every tree in the Kluisbos to deal out punches. Who still has enough juice in their legs and will be able to outsprint the rest of their group in the very tough final kilometres?
