Mountain Bike of Flanders and Flanders Classics join forces!
From 2022 onwards Mountain Bike of Flanders is more closely connected to Flanders’ Finest, because Flanders Classics and Summerbike vzw are joining forces. The new collaboration for the multiday event is starting now in the run-up to the fifth edition that will be taking place on 12, 13 and 14 August.
Summerbike vzw has been the driving force behind Mountain Bike of Flanders since 2017. The event is known for its multiday mountain bike race that is located in the heart of the Flemish Ardennes. This year, the event is planned on 12, 13 and 14 August and will be organised by Summerbike vzw and Flanders Classics for the first time ever.
“We are really excited about this collaboration,” says Flanders Classics CEO Tomas Van Den Spiegel. “Off road cycling is becoming more and more popular and last year we, at Flanders Classics, had our very first gravel event on the calendar. This year we are taking the next step and are glad to be co-organising one of the most exceptional mountain bike events in Flanders, and by extension Belgium. We’re already looking forward to some sports heydays together with the amazing atmosphere that makes off road events so charming.”
Peter Deconinck and Simon Lamon, founders of Summerbike vzw, created a unique 3-day mountain bike event: a timed ride/ prologue on Friday, a marathon on Saturday and a shorter but tough final ride on Sunday. Add the great atmosphere in the mix and you get an amazing event. “We would like to hold on to these recipes for the years to come”, says the organisation at Summerbike vzw. “Thanks to the cooperation with Flanders Classics, we can step it up a notch and let MTB of Flanders grow further. It clicked from the first minute, because we share the same core values: our passion for the Flemish Ardennes and a tough sporting challenge, but also a lot of attention for the experience before and after. Much more than just a 3-day race, we also want to give our participants nice memories to look back on.”
Solo cyclists or duos who would like to participate in this unique event, which takes you to the lesser-known off road sides of the iconic Tour of Flanders hills as well as along challenging single tracks through vast private forests, can register soon and start preparing for an three unforgettable days.
